WEEK 4
DUE WEEK OF
OCT 31-NOV 4
This week in Discovery, we reviewed the field experience with the Rexburg Animal Shelter, generated a list of NEEDS for the shelter, outlined goals to meet needs, and began writing a plan of action.

At home, Discovery students have been asked to write a PLAN for a way they can support the Rexburg Animal Shelter. This plan includes a list of materials. Collect any materials you have at home and send them next week. Please DO NOT PURCHASE materials for this project. Email me any items you may need outside your home and I will get them. bartons@msd321.com
WEEK 3
DUE WEEK OF
OCT 17-21
FIELD EXPERIENCE!
Please check your email for specific information about the Discovery Field Experience involving the Rexburg Animal Shelter. Thank you.
WEEK 2
DUE WEEK OF
OCT 10-14
This week we continued conversations about Growth vs Fixed Mindset. After watching Episode 3, each group generated words that help us use the Power of Yet more fully as we help our brains send growth messages. Older groups learned about neurons that send messages and how we determine the power of those messages.  (Vocabulary: nucleus, cell body, dendrites, axon, synapse)

At home, students are to continue conversation with parents using one of the following scenarios:
  • Visit with a parent or adult and discuss a scenario when you were challenged or trying to accomplish a hard task. What did you do to improve this skill? With a growth mindset, are there more steps you can take to grow in this area?
  • Visit with a parent or adult about something challenging for you right now. Using a growth mindset, what can you do to set goals for yourself in this area?

THEN, a parent or student can briefly record your discussion and set a new challenge that growth mindset could support.

WEEK 1
DUE WEEK OF
SEPT 23-29

In Discovery this week, we introduced Growth Mindset. Students talked about the brain as a muscle. Efforts and experiences help us strengthen and grow our brains.
This week at home, please watch the next clip in this series, Episode 2 (3 minutes). Think of how mistakes can help us learn. Choose one of the activities below to create a message you could share with friends and family that shows how mistakes help us grow our brains.
