Idaho media have been so very kind. There have been several radio interviews, a few newspaper articles and recently Local News 8 did a piece. (In the interview, I mentioned that naturalists from Australia and Germany were accompanying us. A small twist in this report has me going to Australia. While I'd love to visit this beautiful place, my embarkation destination is Ushuaia, Argentina.) Thank you Idaho for all your support. Nine hours until I board the plane!

My 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade students at Hibbard Elementary have been doing some preliminary research about Antarctica. I have a confession. 😆In the past, data collection has been my weakest Geo-Inquiry phase. I think I am often in a hurry to get to Create and Act. What a gift to be asked to explore this phase more. As we collected data in various ways the curiosity, questions, and passion increased... even though this was a "reenactment". I know where my next Geo-Inquiry project is going to have a hard focus. After spending multiple weeks on a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow application and waiting months to hear back, the news is out! I still can't believe it. I'm honored to be selected as a National Geographic/Lindblad Expedition Grosvenor Teacher Fellow 2019. When my dear friend and colleague, Ryan Durfee, invited me to join him in applying for the 2017 National Geographic Summer Institute to learn more about a Geo-Inquiry process my first response was, "A Geo- what?" My summer 2017 calendar was already bursting. "I don't have time to Geo- anything this summer," I thought to myself. When I discovered applications would only be accepted when two teachers from the same school applied, and seeing how intent Ryan was that this experience would be phenomenal for us and our students (he has a sixth sense for finding amazing curriculum and professional development opportunities), I decided to jump in. Fate, providence, inspiration? I believe my entry into the National Geographic Education Family has been a mix of all of these. Blessings for myself, students, colleagues and community have been the ripple effect of my National Geographic journey. Humbled and grateful to be along for the ride. |
